Our theme title is inspired by a proverb which originates from the Yoruba people of Nigeria and means that individual efforts are small and fragile on their own: True strength, resilience, and beauty come from weaving individual contributions together. Throughout our learning we will consider our question.

Year 5 have had a busy start to the term with two trips in 3 weeks! First we visited the mobile Art Explora museum which was at the Royal William Yard. The children got to view artworks by modern contemporary artists as well as older artworks by artists such as Turner. They made insightful comments and enjoyed the experience. They also took part in a clay workshop with Simon Bayliss, one of the artists with work in the exhibition.
On Thursday 24th September, we took part in our 1st Widening Horizons trip. We visited the National Marine Aquarium and learnt about the variety of jobs on offer in such a big organisation – from catering to diving! We also took part in a challenge where we had to work in teams to hoist a shark using a winch. We considered our roles in the team and how we could use our strengths to work together to complete a challenge. In preparation for this challenge, the class hoisted Miss Field using a real shark hoist!
