Spring Term 2026
Our theme this term is:
To The Edge of The World
Our Big Question is: What does it mean to have courage?

We will learn about the lives of historically significant people in different time periods – Christopher Columbus, Ernest Shackleton, Neil Armstrong and Mae Jemison. We will consider their contribution and legacy and think about how they showed courage. We will also explore Christopher Columbus more deeply and consider the impact of exploration on the Native American people.
Science and sustainability week: From learning about carbon footprints, to making turbines powered by solar energy to making bee baths out of recycled plastic. Year 2 have had a busy week learning about how we can look after our environemnt.
Year 2 had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day. We went on a book treasure hunt where we had to solve clues to work out the book title; we read with our buddies in year 6; we were told stories by guest story tellers AND we even chose 'new' books at our book swap. What a busy day full of the joy of books!
Columbus Day. Year 1 and 2 joined together for a 'Living History Day'. We learnt all about what life on board Columbus' ship would have been like, we made ship's biscuits, plotted the voyage, made sea monsters (as they were believed to sink ships)! We set sail on the Santa Maria, and when we arrived in America, we tasted food which Columbus brought back to Spain. We thought carefully about Columbus' treatment of the Native American people and used this knowledge to decide whether we think he was a hero, a villain or a bit of both.
Explorers. Year 2 were surprised to find a rucksack in their classroom which had items in it. We decided that they thought it belonged to an explorer. This got us thinking about where we would like to explore!
29.1.26: Year 2 have found a river in our class! We are wondering why it's there.....
We were inspired by our river to write poems suing verbs and nouns.
We have used paper to make jungle collages in the style of Henri Matisse
23.1.26: Year 2 were visited today by a Muslim faith speaker. We really enjoyed learning more about the Islamic religion.
21.1.26: Computing. The children have been experimenting with algorithms. They have learnt that you need to program precise instructions to get their Beebot to go where they want it to.
19.1.26: We visited Central library and changed our library books. We also enjoyed listening to stories whilst we were there.
