Welcome to Year One
Happy New Year
Welcome back to school, our theme this term is Changing Homes, Changing Times.
Big Question: How can we be agents of change?
In History we will learn about how our homes have changed over time: we will consider key changes in our daily lives e.g. home entertainment and smart phones and consider whether all change is positive. In Art we will consider how we can be agents of change and use art to convey positive messages. We will look at activism in art through some of the works of Banksy. In D.T we will look at repurposing recycled materials to make cars and in Science we will learn about materials and their properties. Throughout the term we will consider our Big Question about how we can make change for good and be 'Agents of change'!
Today we have looked at the work by the artist Banksy. We had a great discussion about his work and the children chose one of his pieces to copy.
We have also been to visit some street art in our local environment.
We looked at lots of different street art designs and had a go at drawing our own.
Computing
We had a brilliant time programming the Beebots.
Library visit
We had a lovely visit to the central library and brought books home to share.
Poetry Writing
On Wednesday the Year one class from College Road Primary came to visit. Together we went on a colour hunt, finding things of different colours and using adjectives to describe them. Using these we made our own poems based on the poem My Treasures by Kate Wakeling.
Our Assembly
We shared what we have been learning in our assembly.
Printing
We tried relief printing to make our Mother’s Daycards.
Autumn Term 2024
Where we Live is our topic this term. Our Big question: What does it mean to belong to a diverse community?
This term we will explore our local environment and people who live in our community. We will share the books The Big Book of Families, The Storm Whale and The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch.
Our trip to the Hoe and Smeaton’s Tower.
We had glorious sunshine for our first trip of the year. The children were all very excited and climbed all 93 of the lighthouse’s steps with great enthusiasm.
Our Brian Pollard style paintings
We went to the Millfield’s Trust Headquarters and took part in some lovely activities.
We loved singing our 'Enormous Turnip' song during our Harvest Festival celebration.
We have been learning all about lighthouses. We had a go at making a simple circuit.
It was a beautiful sunny day when we walked to the library. A big thank you to the parents who came with us.
Congratulations to the children who received their first maths certificate from Mr Line.
