Welcome to the Stone Age Year 4!
Welcome back to the new school year and an exciting term ahead. Our theme until Christmas is: 'Back to the Stone Age'. We have so much to look forward to.
We have started the term with swimming lessons at the Life Centre, which has been amazing. The children have impressed us with their confidence, behaviour and overcoming fear.
Photos to follow next week!
Please see the following links below that outline the term ahead.
Stone Age Day!
Year 4 had the best day going back in time to recreate life like it was during the Stone Age. They began the day by preparing a feast of stewed fruit. Whilst it was cooking they wrote recipes for how to make it. The afternoon was very exciting! Fire starting with flint and steel, marshmallow toasting, feasting on the stewed fruit and archery with Matt. A huge ‘THANK YOU’ to Matt for coming in to teach the children archery skills. They absolutely loved it! 😊
The Epic Year 4 Class Assembly
Congratulations to the first two ‘Times Tables Rockstars’ in Year 4 to ‘Go Green’! This means that they can consistently recall every times table fact in under four seconds! Fantastic! We can’t wait to see if they can turn their heatmap to dark green by speeding up further. Well done to all the children who have persevered this week to practise on TTRockstars at home for at least three minutes a day. There are already children who have changed their red facts to orange. We are so proud.
We had such an enjoyable Art & Design lesson arranging and threading our clay beads. Lots of us managed to follow our designs and some adapted designs if our clay beads didn’t ‘survive’ the drying process. We had a few broken clay bones! 🦴 It was so much fun trying on the Stone Age costumes we designed and made at home. We added our new accessories and modelled them for the photos. We are so proud of our finished outcome.
Is it too early to mention Christmas?
This year our whole school Art theme is ‘trees’. Look at the beautiful designs painted by the artists of Year 4.
Remember to ask your parents to fill in the form on the back of your painting and return to school as soon as possible (by November 4th at the latest). The artwork will then be sent to Xmas4Schools for scanning, ready for orders to be placed.
Year 4 have been working hard on their gymnastics sequences containing jumps and balances.
This week rolls were refined and included in the sequences.
Our fabulous clay beads have now dried, so we painted them carefully.
Designing and Making Stone Age Style Jewellery
We were very excited this morning when we arrived at school. Our clay beads were drying well and looking superb!
We took part in a 'PANTS' lesson, designed by the NSPCC. We re-visited some important messages such as, 'No means no!' Mrs Dean was impressed with how we worked in pairs with respect and maturity.
Can you talk to adult about what you have learned? Perhaps you could give examples of the different types of touch, and talk about the feelings that might be experienced in some scenarios.
Year 4 are making so much progress in their percussion lessons with Miss Smith. Such confident performances!
What do Hindus believe God is like? In RE, we impressed Mrs Dean with our own ideas to explain Brahman. So clever and creative!
Here we have different kinds of fish in an aquarium, a variety of interesting birds and all the beautiful butterflies in the world!
What a happy Harvest Festival! Well done Year 4 for performing your 'Harvest of India' contribution so well. Your dance was joyous and set the scene perfectly. It was lovely to hear some of you sharing your poems with the school so confidently, too.
Thankyou to everyone who brought gifts of food for our vibrant and overflowing harvest table. These will be gratefully received by the Shekinah Mission who will ensure people in need are well fed as a result of your generosity.
Here are some of our greatest moments from our swimming block at Plymouth Life Centre! We are so lucky to have been given the chance to practise our water skills even more with three months free swimming at our swimming lesson venue.
The Year 4 children have made a magnificent start to their swimming lesson block. Everyone is building confidence and skill each day. They have shown independence as well as thoughtful teamwork - we are so proud of them.
