Welcome to Year 1

Spring Term 2026

Welcome back! It has been lovely to see all the children return to school this week.
Our theme this term is: To The Edge of The World
Our Big Question is: What does it mean to have courage?

Today we celebrated Columbus Day. We have baked ship's biscuits, made a moving picture of Columbus' journey using sliders, designed and made sea monsters and tasted the new foods that Columbus discovered on his travels.

We have been developing our understanding of number bonds. We used play-dough to help us calculate the answers.

Congratulations to some of the children who have earned their first number bonds certificate.

We have started the term off really well with some great reading at home. The children earned a certificate and a 'smelly' sticker!

We will be learning about the lives of Christopher Columbus, Ernest Shackleton, Mae Jemison and Neil Armstrong, discussing their courage and legacies.

Literacy

We have started our new Writing Roots text, which is The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett. We found a nest in our classroom. We would love to know what is inside the eggs!

Autumn Term 2025

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are excited about the year ahead. We are looking forward to getting to know all the children and will be adding photos into the class gallery.

Please remember to bring your book bag and water bottle to school each day.
Our PE lessons will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. PE bags can be left in school on your peg, and we will send them home at half-term for a wash!

Our 1st full week in Year 1

This week we started our Literacy Tree story of the Naughty Bus, used watercolour paints to colour mix and had fun in PE developing our ball skills.

Autumn Term 2025

Our theme for the term is:

From Land's End to John O'Groats

Our Big Question is: What does it mean to be British?

During the term we will be going on a virtual tour of the United Kingdom, learning about local geography and significant events as well as local food, music, art and sports.
