The aim of the Foundation Class at St. Andrew’s C of E Primary School is to give each child a happy, positive and fun start to their school life in which they can establish solid foundations on which to expand and foster a deep love of learning.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) document which includes seven areas of learning and development. The EYFS also includes characteristics of effective teaching and learning, they highlight the importance of a child’s attitude to learning and their ability to play, explore and think critically about the world around them.
Further information can be found at

We will be following the new Early Years Curriculum,

Learning through play is an important part of our day, we believe children learn best from activities and experiences that interest and inspire them.
In September we will start with the topic “All about Me” and after this we will use the children’s interests as our themes.
The children all have a Learning Journey where we evidence their progress. Photographs and observations are shared with the parents through the Tapestry App and we encourage our parents to contribute to this by uploading photos taken away from school.
Please take a look at our page about supporting reading at home: https://www.standrewsprimaryschool.co.uk/supporting-reading-at-home/ There you will find a handy guide to phonics so you know how your child will be taught to read as well as tips for how to support reading at home.
We are all looking forward to seeing you in September. You might like to have a look at this website which has lots of ideas for you to enjoy with your children.
