  • St Andrew's Science Fair!

    Thu 20 Mar 2014
The children took part in a fun and exciting Science Fair, run by the children themselves! Each class provided an interactive learning station for everyone to visit. The children then sampled a healthy fruit smoothie made by bike 'pedal power.'

  • Food, fire, fun and foraging!

    Tue 11 Mar 2014

So, would you believe that with a few seasonal vegetables picked from around the farm, a handful of eggs gathered from the chickens and an abundance of willing helpers, we cooked an enormous pink omelette. Yes ... pink (from the beetroot). Perhaps it was the fresh air or the smoky flavour from the fire, but we ate the lot and it was delicious!
We also had fun painting some pictures of Magdalen Farm using only natural items that we found on our walks - daffodils, moss, berries, beetroot, etc. We framed them with natural bark frames and will be bringing them home.
This evening we have laughed a lot in a multi sensory, slightly messy, all-join-in quiz. The highlight was undoubtedly the children's musical compositions about the farm sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Hilarious!
Bed earlier tonight and hopefully more sleep for everyone. We can't believe that we'll be back tomorrow.

  • Everyone's busy down on the farm!

    Tue 11 Mar 2014
We've been hard at work this morning, gathering eggs from the chickens, making sandwiches (to order!), feeding the pigs and planting salad seeds in the poly tunnels. We've met all the animals, including Henry, a rather grumpy pig, some cows and pregnant sheep. We also got to stroke the goats and tasted a range of spicy salad leaves.
Now it's lunch time and later we'll be doing eco art and cooking. The farm and all the staff are friendly, welcoming and we're having an amazing time.
  • Bear Grylls eat your heart out!

    Mon 10 Mar 2014

It's been an exciting day and the children have fallen into bed completely exhausted this evening. This afternoon we went wild in the woods: building dens, lighting fires, making mud monsters and drinking hot chocolate around the fire. The dens were judged on size, stability and waterproof quality so you can imagine the fun we had testing them out ... lots of soggy children!

Dinner was delicious, homemade pizza and freshly grown salad followed by apple cake and custard. We rounded off the evening singing songs and playing games around the campfire along with a toasted marshmallow or two.

Everyone is fast asleep now, dreaming of their adventures as farmers tomorrow. The internet is limited and we are struggling to insert photos so you'll have to wait to see the fun until we return.
